Cornflour play

Cornflour play

Posted by Mena Amnour

This week I'm exploring the exciting sensory activity, cornflour. Please try this at home and let me know how you get on!
Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to be FUN!!!

Cornflour play is an amazing sensory activity. It can be enjoyed by any age group and is especially suitable for younger children. Getting children to help mix the cornflour with the water, allows for communication, sharing and turn-taking skills to develop. You can play with cornflour on the table in a bowl if you have limited space or on the floor using a large tray.

Cornflour play develops hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Use words like; soft, hard, runny, smooth, slimy, cold, etc extending a child’s vocabulary. It is a calming and relaxing activity to do with a baby. Let your baby lead as they play (supervised) near you and use encouraging voices and facial expressions. Cornflour play will help your child get used to being messy and it will make it easier during the transition into nursery.

The main thing is that it is a cheap activity to do in the home and it is fun!
